Taipei, Taiwan, is a city that thrives on energy – early morning food stalls steaming up the narrow streets, night markets filled with joy and laughter past midnight, with mountains peeking out between neighbourhoods for that touch of natural scenery. For travellers who want a destination that’s lively, convenient and endlessly surprising, Taipei delivers at every turn.

And with redONE Mobile’s new BEST plans, offering free roaming across 16 countries, including Taiwan, staying connected throughout this adventure is completely worry-free.

1. Taipei 101: The Iconic Skyline View

Once the world’s tallest building, Taipei 101 remains one of the most recognisable landmarks in Asia. Take the world’s fastest elevator up to the observatory for panoramic views of the entire city. The surrounding district is also great for shopping and dining, featuring luxury brands, local boutiques and Instagram-worthy cafes.

The Taipei 101 Observatory is on the 89th floor. Another observatory is on the 101 floor (a separate ticket is required), where you can have the experience of walking the outside deck of the “roof” of Taipei 101.

Tickets to visit Taipei 101 can be found here.

2. Shilin Night Market

No trip to Taipei is complete without visiting the famous Shilin Night Market for food. It is the largest, if not the most famous, night market in the city. Indulge in the classic food like oyster omelettes, XXL fried chicken, grilled squid, stinky tofu, bubble tea, and more! It is the perfect place to unpack and unwind after a long day of sightseeing, and for people who love to eat and experience Taiwan’s vibrant street-food culture.

Because the night market is close to many schools, goods are also sold at less expensive prices as compared to regular stores – a perfect place to also buy and shop for souvenirs on a budget.

3. Ximending: Taipei’s Trendiest District

Often referred to as the “Harajuku, or Myeongdong of Taipei”, Ximending is where you can find the most people visiting. Expect neon lights, quirky fashion stores, street performers, graffiti art, themed cafes, and both high- and low-end shopping areas. If you love pop culture and bustling city vibes, this is the place to be.

Plus, not only did Taiwan invent the iconic pearl milk tea we enjoy, but it continues to put out new twists on this sweet, creamy beverage. You can look for Xing Fu Tang’s flagship store to try out their new flavours!

4. Jiufen Old Street: A Gorgeous Scenery

A short ride from Taipei, Jiufen Old Street is one of Taiwan’s most enchanting destinations. It is famous for its winding alleyways, red lanterns, and misty mountain views that make you feel like you stepped into a storybook village – some even say that Jiufen is the village that inspired Spirited Away. Perched high above the coastline, Jiufen offers a sensory experience from the moment you arrive.

As you walk through its narrow lanes, you can find vendors selling everything from sweet potato balls and herbal rice cakes to grilled sausages and peanut ice-cream rolls—the aroma of freshly brewed tea trails from the many historic teahouses that line the hillsides. Most of the teahouses in Jiufen overlook the mountains or the sea – perfect for slowing down, sipping a cup of traditional tea, and soaking in the gorgeous landscape.

5. Raohe Night Market: Authentic Taiwanese Foods

If you want a night market that feels authentically Taiwanese, Raohe Night Market may be better than Shilin Market – while it lacks in size, it makes up for it with some of the best street food in Taipei.

You cannot talk about Raohe Night Market without talking about the hu jiao bing (pepper bun). This bun is stuffed with marinated pork and scallions, sprinkled generously with black pepper, and slapped against the inside of a clay oven for a golden-brown, delicious bun in just a few minutes.

Unlike some night markets where you have to zigzag through, Raohe Night Market is a single straight street, making it easy to move from start to finish.
